Kangwon Land, operator of the only casino in South Korea at which locals are permitted to gamble, has confirmed the appointment of Choi Cheol-Gyu as Vice President.

Choi was appointed as the vice president of the company at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders held on Dec. 6 at the High1 Grand Hotel in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, according to Kangwon Land.

Choi, a native of Gangwon Province, has held various government positions including Minister of Women and Family Affairs and President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol’s transition committee.

During his inaugural speech to the employees and partners of Gangwon Land, Choi emphasized the importance of the company’s role in revitalizing the economy of abandoned mining areas where Gangwon Land is located.

He also stressed the need to stop the outflow of national wealth, strengthen national competitiveness, and promote the tourism industry. Choi emphasized that Gangwon Land has reached a turning point and must take the lead in achieving these goals.

“The casino sector has become a hotbed of various regulations, and we need to innovate regulations and lead the industry,” he said.
