LG Electronics launched LG WashCombo, the all-in-one washer and dryer, in the U.S. before Korea. U.S. customers’ response exceeded expectations.
The LG WashCombo, which LG Electronics launched this month, is displayed in the home appliance section of Home Depot’s Las Vegas branch, the largest home improvement retailer in the U.S., according to LG Electronics on Jan. 16. When LG Electronics launched WashCombo in the North American market on Jan. 4, Home Depot was the first to propose a special display.
Since sales began, the popularity of the WashCombo has exceeded expectations and it has been performing well. “To date, the ‘WashCombo’ is one of the best-selling models in the U.S. market,” said Ryu Jae-chul, president and head of LG Electronics’ Home Appliance and Air Solution division (H&A), at a press conference held at CES 2024 on Jan. 10. “We believe it will be the model that will contribute the most to LG Electronics’ growth among the products we have launched this year.”
“We’ve been selling WashCombo for about a week now, and compared to the average initial sales of premium drum washers, we’re seeing about 60 to 70 percent higher sales,” said Kim Dae-heon, head of washing machine sales at LG Electronics America.
The LG WashCombo is a convenient all-in-one product that combines the functions of a washer and dryer. With a large-capacity drum washer and an inverter heat pump dryer in one, customers no longer need to move laundry to the dryer for drying after washing. This means it takes less than two hours to wash and dry a 4.5-kilogram load, making laundry day faster and more efficient.
LG Electronics expects to make WashCombo more price competitive in the United States. This is because WashCombo is eligible for the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which provides subsidies of up to $743 or more. The U.S. will offer benefits such as tax deductions and subsidies for installing heat pump products as early as the second quarter of this year.
In Korea, the premium version, the “LG Signature” model, will be launched first. “Signature has a lot of its own convenience features and will be launched later than the U.S. market,” said Ryu. “We expect to launch it in the Korean market at the end of next month, early March at the latest.”
