Samsung Electronics is rolling out a software update for its Galaxy Buds series, enhancing the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of these wireless earphones.
Samsung Electronics announced on Feb. 20. that Galaxy Buds upgrades will allow users to use various AI features of the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung’s first AI-powered smartphone, more seamlessly.
Key features include pairing the Galaxy S24 series’ real-time translation, the AI Interpreter, with Galaxy Buds. Samsung says this pairing “further optimizes the real-time translation by separating sound during the conversation,” as users can listen to translations through the wireless earphones while the other person on the line hears through the user’s phone speaker.
“Instead of passing one device back and forth to use this feature, users can focus on the conversation by pairing the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Buds,” said a Samsung representative. Users can activate the AI interpretation feature from a distance of up to 10 meters while wearing Galaxy Buds.
Samsung is also applying Galaxy AI to its AI assistant Bixby, allowing users to activate various AI features through voice commands. For example, users can initiate real-time translation calls by saying, “Hi Bixby, call Michael in English.”
Samsung is planning to update the Galaxy S23 series with the generative AI features currently only available on the Galaxy S24 series, according to people with knowledge of the matter. These features include real-time call translation, advanced photo editing, and a Circle to Search feature developed in partnership with Google.
“The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Fold 5 smartphones will also go through a series of updates to incorporate generative AI features throughout the year,” said a Samsung representative.
