Hyundai Motor Group sold more than 1.7 million vehicles in the United States last year, achieving its highest annual sales ever in the market.
The company announced on Jan. 5 that its total sales reached 1,708,293 units in 2024, a 3.4% increase from 2023, when it sold 1,652,821 vehicles. This marked the first time the group surpassed the 1.7-million mark in U.S. sales.
Hyundai Motor Company saw its sales grow by 4.8% year-over-year to 911,805 units, while Kia reported a 1.8% rise with 796,488 vehicles sold. Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury division, recorded 75,003 sales, an 8.4% increase compared to the previous year.
The group attributed its performance to the strong demand for SUVs and eco-friendly vehicles, including electric models.
Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 electric vehicle posted a 31% surge in sales, reaching 44,400 units, while its flagship Palisade SUV saw a 23% jump with 110,055 units sold.
Kia also reported record-breaking sales for six models, including the EV9 electric SUV (22,017 units), Sportage (161,917 units), Carnival (49,726 units), K3 and K4 sedans (139,778 units combined), EV6 electric crossover (21,715 units), and Telluride SUV (115,504 units).
For the second consecutive year, Hyundai Motor Group ranked as the fourth-largest automaker in the U.S., trailing General Motors, Toyota, and Ford. In 2024, GM led the market with 2,689,346 vehicles sold, followed by Toyota at 2,332,623 units and Ford at 2,065,161 units. Honda came in fifth with 1,423,857 vehicles sold, while Nissan-Mitsubishi ranked sixth with 1,033,851 units.
