Summary
Chey Chang-won, Vice Chairman and CEO of SK Discovery, was born in 1964 as the youngest of three sons and four daughters of SK founder Chey Jong-gun and is a cousin of Chairman Chey Tae-won. After the death of founder Chey Jong-gun, the group was inherited by his brother, Chairman Chey Jong-hyon, and later Chairman Chey Tae-won, Chey Jong-gun’s grandson, took over the management. The children of founder Chey Jong-gun, Chey Shin-won and Chey Chang-won, have been managing SK Networks and SK Discovery, respectively, as separate entities. At the end of 2023, Chey was appointed chairman of the SK Supex Council, effectively becoming the second-in-command of the group.
Vice Chairman Chey joined Sunkyong Industry (now SK Chemicals) in 1994 as a manager in the Business Planning Office. He became the CEO of SK Chemicals in 2007, Vice Chairman of SK Construction, and then Vice Chairman and CEO of SK Gas in 2011, before taking on the role of CEO of the intermediate holding company SK Discovery in 2017. He has been leading the group’s chemical and bio businesses. Known internally for his planning and financial acumen, he is recognized for his expertise and execution ability in discovering future businesses and restructuring existing ones, particularly in green materials, energy, and bio.
