Summary

Park Yong-oh, the third-generation leader and the fourth and sixth chairman of Doosan Group, was born as the second son of the first chairman, Park Too-pyung. In 1996, when his elder brother, Park Yong-gon, retired, he took over the group’s leadership. He restructured the group’s business portfolio, shifting the focus from consumer goods such as food and beverages to heavy industries. The restructuring led to the sale of OB Brewery and the withdrawal from businesses with Coca-Cola, Burger King, and 3M. The group’s headquarters were also moved from the Euljiro office building to Doosan Tower in Dongdaemun.

In 2001, the group acquired Korea Heavy Industries (later renamed Doosan Heavy Industries) and in 2005, Daewoo Heavy Machinery (renamed Doosan Infracore), elevating Doosan Group to the top 10 in the Korean business hierarchy. The current holding company of the group, Doosan Corporation, was established in 1998 through the merger of OB Brewery, the parent company at the time, with Doosan Trading, Doosan Information & Communications, Doosan Dong-A, and Doosan KyungWol.
