Summary

Koo Doo-Hwoi, Honorary Chairman of LS YESCO, was one of the three founding members of LS Group, a South Korean conglomerate that operates electrics, materials and energy businesses.

He was born in 1928 as the youngest brother of LG Group founder Koo In-Hwoi. After graduating from Korea University, he earned a master’s degree from New York University’s Graduate School of Business.

He began his career in 1958 at Hanil Bank (now Woori Bank). In 1963, he joined Goldstar Corporation (now LG Electronics) as senior vice president.

He recognized for contributing to the growth of LG and GS Group while he held leadership positions in various subsidiaries, including president of Goldstar Electric (now LS Cable & System), president of Goldstar Telecommunications & Semiconductor, general manager of Lucky-Goldstar Group’s (now LG Group) US branch, president of Honam Oil (now GS Caltex), chairman of Hoyu Energy (now E1).

Together with his two brothers, Koo formed LS Group in November 2003, when the company separated from LG Group.

He also worked to establish friendly relations with foriegn countries by serving as chairman of the Korea-Germany Economic Cooperation Council and president of the Korea-Latin America Association. He was appointed honorary consul by the Mexican government in 1978 and was awarded the “Mexican Order of Merit” in 1994 . He passed away in 2011, at the age of 83.
