Summary

Chey Jae-won, Senior Vice Chairman of SK Group and CEO of SK On, was born in May 1963 as the second of three siblings to the late Chairman Chey Jong-hyon. His older brother is Chairman Chey Tae-won, and his younger sister is Chey Ki-won, Chairwoman of the SK Happiness Foundation. He began his career at SKC and has worked in various SK Group companies, including SK Telecom and SK E&S. In 2013, after being convicted of embezzlement, Chey Jae-won stepped down from all his registered director positions. However, his employment restrictions were lifted in late October 2021, and he was appointed CEO of SK On at the end of that year, effectively marking his return to management after approximately eight years. Chey Jae-won has long been known for his affection towards the battery business, now leading at SK On.

Chey Jae-won has been consistently reducing his stake in the holding company, SK Inc. As of the end of last year, the largest shareholder of SK Inc. is Chairman Chey Tae-won, who holds 17.59% of the shares. His sister, Chey Ki-won, Chairwoman of the SK Happiness Foundation, owns 6.53%, while Chey Jae-won’s share is only 0.36%. He also supported his brother, Chairman Chey Tae-won’s leadership by giving up his inheritance when the late Chairman Chey Jong-hyon passed away in 1998.
