Archrivals Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have both won the prestigious CES 2010 Innovation Awards in a slew of categories. The awards are given to products with excellent technology and design judged by the Industrial Designers Society of America and the Consumer Electronics Association.
CEA is the organizer of the International Consumer Electronics Show, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow.
Samsung Electronics won in 21 categories, including LED TVs and mobile phones. In imaging and home appliances, it won for 10 products -- four TVs, three Blu-ray players, a home theater system, refrigerator and microwave. In mobile IT products, 11 items were picked -- six cell phones, two MP3 players, a monitor, digital frame and electronic paper display. Samsung Digital Imaging won awards for two cameras, brining the total for the Samsung Group to 23.
LG Electronics won prizes for 17 products -- six display products including LED TVs, three mobile phones, three Network Blu-ray players, two home theater systems, a refrigerator, cleaner and digital storage. LG's LED TV was selected for the Best of Innovations Award in recognition of its good image quality and ultra-slim design. LG Innotek added one more award with its mobile WiMAX module, bringing LG Group's total tally to 18.
