Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group decided on Monday to add a brake override system to all its new cars by the end of this year. The system allows the brake pedal to override the accelerator in the event of unintended acceleration.

The company first introduced the system in diesel cars, then in the Equus luxury sedan among gasoline-powered vehicles in February last year. It was later added to the Genesis, YF Sonata, Opirus, K7 and K5.

Hyundai-Kia aims to finish adding BOS to the Click, Verna, Avante, Morning, Pride and Forte (with the exception of the Forte 2.0) by the end of this year.

The decision to make BOS mandatory on all gasoline-powered cars came after seeing Toyota's crisis involving accidents caused by unintended acceleration.

All diesel-powered GM Daewoo cars are equipped with BOS, while the Lacetti Premiere is the company's only gasoline-powered car to come with it. Renault-Samsung installs the system in all of its models, as does Ssangyong Motor with the exception of some models of the Chairman.
