The government has launched 11 new maritime research and development projects that have the potential to become the nation's future growth engines.
The Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs said Tuesday that the new projects are spread over three sectors. Five are in basic infrastructure for marine sciences, which includes underwater wireless communications, deep-sea robotic submarines and the development of a second base in Antarctica. Maritime bio-energy technology development, maritime resources development, and sub-seabed CO2 storage technology are included in the cutting-edge marine technology sector.
Three other projects are categorized under maritime safety and environment technology.
The ministry says the potential for development and climate change were considered when selecting the projects and pledged investment for early commercialization of the technologies.
