Average daily sales of the Hyundai Equus premium sedan reached a record 1,115 units, the carmaker said Tuesday.
Costing up to W147.6 million (US$1=W1,088) and the biggest and most expensive Korean sedan, the Equus is favored by government agencies, corporations and private business owners, which account for half of its clients.
Government agencies and businesses are reluctant to purchase luxury imports as official vehicles for fears of agitating patriots. Early this year, car rental and leasing companies bought large numbers of Equuses timed with promotions among management at major conglomerates.
"We made the exterior design more refined and classy in order to retain the existing clients of the Equus, and this proved to be effective," a Hyundai Motor spokesman said.
