Daum Kakao changed its name to Kakao at a shareholders and board of directors meeting on Wednesday.
The company also announced plans to put further focus on mobile service under new CEO Rim Ji-hoon, who is in his mid-30s and will lead the combined operations.
Daum Kakao was established in a merger in October last year of Daum Communications, which operated a leading web portal, and Kakao, which launched the hugely successful messenger app Kakao Talk.
Industry watchers say the latest development shows that the Kakao side has taken full control of Daum's business.
