Line, a mobile messaging app run by Naver, and two of its sister platforms are Google Play's three top-grossing apps. The rankings are based on data collected by App Annie from the first quarter of 2012 through the first quarter of 2016.
In a ranking of top apps by revenue, Line, Line Play and Line Manga took the top three spots. Another popular messaging app run by KakaoTalk came in fifth on the list.
Ranked by number of downloads, Line came in seventh. The download list was topped by Facebook and WhatsApp.
Google Play's total global revenue increased more than 35-fold and its downloads nearly fourfold in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2012.
