Japanese budget clothing retailer Uniqlo shut down its flagship store in Myeong-dong, downtown Seoul, on Sunday.

Since opening in November 2011, the store had attracted both Korean and foreign shoppers to the glitzy commercial district, but declining sales due to the boycott of Japanese businesses compounded by the coronavirus pandemic sounded the death knell (US$1=W1,118).

A closure sign hangs on Uniqlo's building in Myeong-dong, Seoul on Sunday.

Uniqlo shut down scores of outlets in Korea last year and now has only 150, down from 190 in late 2019.
