South Korea’s SK Group will showcase artificial intelligence (AI) technologies centered on the theme of net zero at CES 2024, which kicks off on Jan. 9. in Las Vegas.
SK Group, South Korea’s second-largest conglomerate, has set up a theme park-style exhibition titled “Inspire Happiness” in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) in the U.S., according to the group on Jan. 8. The exhibition is designed to give visitors a glimpse of a world free of the climate crisis. SK Group’s seven affiliates - SK, SK Innovation, SK Hynix, SK Telecom, SK E&S, SK ecoplant, and SKC - will present their combined efforts in carbon reduction projects and technologies.
The theme of SK Group’s exhibitions at the CES evolved from “Your Companion” to “Together in Action” to “Inspire Happiness” in the past three years. In 2022, SK Group set an ambitious goal to reduce its global carbon emissions by 1 percent, which is equivalent to 200 million tons. The group announced its intention to take full-scale action with specific carbon reduction measures last year.
The scale of the exhibition has expanded every year. This year, SK Group’s pavilion spans 1,850 square meters (approximately 560 square feet), which is 630 square meters larger than the previous year. SK Group first joined CES as the first Korean energy and chemical company in 2019 and has since participated every year.
The SK Group Pavilion is divided into five zones centered around a 6-meter diameter light-emitting diode (LED), which resembles Las Vegas’s new sphere landmark. The pavilion features interactive attractions like the hydrogen fuel cell-powered “Train Adventure” and the “Magic Carpet” that resembles an urban air mobility (UAM) aircraft.
The “SK ICT Family Demo Room” will exhibit various AI technologies, including SK Telecom’s next-generation AI data center model, AI media studio, and an AI diagnostic assistant service for pets. The latest AI semiconductors from SK Telecom subsidiary Sapion and SK Hynix’s semiconductor technology will also be on display.
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and top executives of the group’s affiliates will attend CES 2024. Chey is set to engage in discussions with global companies, aiming to foster collaborative efforts towards achieving net-zero emissions and advancing AI technologies.
