Chang In-hwa has been appointed as the 10th chairman of POSCO Group (POSCO Holdings). POSCO, formerly known as Pohang Iron and Steel Company, is a South Korean steel giant headquartered in Pohang.
The appointment was made during the 56th regular meeting of shareholders held on Mar. 21 at the POSCO Center in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The motion to appoint Chang as the chairman and inside director was passed as originally proposed. Chang will serve as the chairman of the group for a term of 3 years.
With his inauguration, POSCO Group aims to reshape the company’s future with a new vision focused on innovation and dedication to the materials business.
To achieve this goal, POSCO Group has outlined three strategies: leading the business based on future technologies, implementing a dynamic corporate culture of growth together, and establishing an ESG management system.
After his inauguration, Chairman Chang plans to visit the group’s major business sites in person for 100 days to listen to the voices of the field and employees.
During the general meeting, the appointment of four inside directors was passed as originally proposed.
This includes Jeong Ki-seop, who heads the business strategy team at POSCO Holdings, Kim Jun-hyung, who leads the Environmentally Friendly Future Materials division at POSCO Holdings, and Kim Ki-soo, who is the head of POSCO Research Institute of Technology and Vice President Group CTO.
Chang is an accomplished professional with vast expertise in the steel and new business sectors. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Seoul National University and a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from MIT in the United States.
Chang joined the Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology (RIST) in 1988 and has served in various key positions, including Director of the RIST Steel Structure Research Institute, Head of POSCO’s New Business Department, Steel Marketing Solution Department, Chief Technology Investment Officer, Director of the Technical Research Laboratories, and Head of Steel Production Division.
In 2018, Chang was chosen as one of the two final candidates for the chairman position, along with Chairman Choi Jeong-woo.
