Roh Tae-moon, president and head of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile eXperience (MX) division, met with Rick Osterloh, Google’s vice president in charge of platform and device operations. Samsung shared the update on its official social media, hinting at a strengthening of its artificial intelligence (AI) partnership with Google.
The Google vice president on April 25 posted a photo from his recent meeting with Roh on his X (formerly Twitter) account. “Had a terrific conversation with TM (Roh Tae-moon),” he wrote. “Our partnership has never been stronger. I’m thrilled about our collaboration on AI and the many opportunities ahead for both companies.”
Samsung Mobile retweeted Osterloh’s post, replying, “Our collaboration with Google continues as we work towards a shared vision of delivering the best Android ecosystem of products and services,” and adding, “Exciting things are coming up for the future of AI-powered Android and Galaxy experiences.”
This year, Samsung Electronics launched the Galaxy S24 series, which implements AI functions without a cloud using on-device AI. The Galaxy S24 is equipped with Google’s generative AI model, Gemini Nano 1. In collaboration with Google, Samsung also introduced the Circle to Search feature on the Galaxy S24 for the first time, allowing users to search by drawing a circle on the screen.
The industry anticipates that the next models following the Galaxy S24 series will feature expanded AI functions implemented through collaboration between the two companies. Jo Chul-min, MD at Samsung’s System LSI division, recently shared, “The Galaxy S25 series will be equipped with the next-generation on-device AI model, Gemini Nano 2.”
Samsung and Google’s collaboration began in earnest in 2010 with the launch of the Galaxy S smartphone featuring the Android operating system. The two companies have continuously strengthened their cooperation in various technological areas, including mobile devices and software.
