Samsung Electronics is set to change the design of its wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 3. The current kidney bean-like shape of the earbuds will be modified to include a stem, making them resemble ‘bean sprouts’ like AirPods. This marks the first redesign of the Galaxy Buds series in five years since its launch in 2019.
According to industry insiders, Samsung Electronics will unveil this newly designed Galaxy Buds 3 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event in July. It is reported that Samsung will release two versions of the Galaxy Buds 3: a Pro model and a standard model. This move is seen as an effort to appeal to a broader range of consumers with different needs and preferences.
The redesign of the Galaxy Buds aims to enhance sound quality and performance. Samsung has maintained a kidney bean shape unlike Apple’s AirPods, which feature a stem design. This design choice has led to some criticism regarding sound quality during phone calls, as the microphone is positioned upper compared to AirPods. By introducing a stem, Samsung hopes to address these concerns and offer an improved user experience.
With this new design, Samsung intends to significantly improve call quality and also greatly enhance the active noise-canceling function, which eliminates surrounding noise.
Improvements related to AI functions, which Samsung has been emphasizing, are also expected with this redesign.
In Feb. 2024, Samsung began supporting translation functions through a software update for the Galaxy Buds series. Industry experts have pointed out that the current design limits the variety of AI functions that wireless earbuds can support. By increasing the physical size of the earbuds, Samsung aims to enhance battery performance and enable support for a broader range of functions.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics plans to hold the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event on July 10 in Paris, France. At the event, Samsung will unveil its leading foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Fold 6 and Flip 6, along with a range of wearable products.
Notable among the new wearables is the ‘Galaxy Ring,’ which can be worn like a ring and measures health status. Additionally, the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Buds 3 will be introduced, showcasing Samsung’s latest innovations in smart technology.
