Samsung Electronics will hold an Unpacked event on July 10 to unveil its AI-equipped foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. This move aims to capitalize on the special effects of the upcoming Paris Olympics, which starts on July 26. The new Galaxy Z models are not only equipped with AI features but also have reduced weight and thickness compared to their predecessors.

Since launching the Galaxy Z2 series in 2020, Samsung has traditionally unveiled new models in August. However, last year, the company introduced new devices on July 26 in Seoul, and this year, they will debut them in early July in Paris. This earlier release is seen as a strategic move to reclaim the title of the world’s No. 1 smartphone manufacturer by shipment volume, a position they lost to Apple last year for the first time in 12 years.

Samsung’s market share in the foldable phone sector has also been affected by aggressive competition from Chinese manufacturers. While Samsung maintained a 70% to 80% market share, it dropped significantly to 66.4% last year, with competitors like Huawei (11.9%), Xiaomi, and Oppo closing in.

In addition to the foldable smartphones, Samsung will unveil a range of wearable products at the Unpacked event. This includes their first smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, which can measure health metrics and will be available in black, silver, and gold, across nine sizes. The Galaxy Watch 7, a smartwatch, will feature the second-generation 3nm Exynos W1000 chip, enhancing power efficiency by 20%. A new high-end Galaxy Watch model designed for outdoor activities will also be introduced. The Galaxy Buds 3 wireless earphones will see a design overhaul, resembling Apple’s AirPods. This marks the first redesign of the Buds since their launch in 2019.
