Chinese fast fashion company Shein is opening its first South Korean pop-up store in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. This move comes as the company ramps up its marketing efforts following its recent official entry into the Korean market.
According to the retail industry on June. 1., Shein posted job openings on a sales job specialist platform, seeking models and store managers for its short-term pop-up store.
The job ad indicated that the Shein pop-up store will operate for nine days, from August 6-14, near Exit 4 of Seongsu Station. Employee duties will include store management, customer service, sales, inventory management, cashiering, and overall event zone operations.
The pop-up store will feature Shein products, including collaboration items with actress Kim You-jung, who is the first global ambassador for its fashion label DAZY.
Founded in Nanjing, China, in 2012, Shein established a Korean subsidiary in December 2022 and launched a Korean-specific website in April this year. Known as the “Chinese Uniqlo,” Shein has gained significant popularity in the US and Europe with its ultra-low-cost clothing, such as $5 skirts and $9 jeans. It is also considered one of the “big three” Chinese e-commerce platforms, alongside AliExpress and Temu.
