Samsung Electronics showcased the Galaxy Ring at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10. The smart ring is Samsung’s first new wearable device in five years since their Bluetooth earphones. When worn on the finger, the Galaxy Ring automatically tracks health information such as heart rate and sleep patterns. The company said, “It is the lightest Galaxy device with cutting-edge sensor functions, designed for 24-hour health monitoring.”

The Galaxy Ring focuses on sleep tracking. While many smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch, offer sleep quality measurement through sensors, they can be inconvenient due to frequent charging and the discomfort of wearing a watch to bed. The ring can be connected to Galaxy smartphones and allows control of the Galaxy camera and alarms with a gesture of touching the thumb and forefinger together.

Made from lightweight and durable titanium, the Galaxy Ring is designed for continuous wear without discomfort. It comes in nine sizes to fit different finger thicknesses and weighs between 2.3g and 3g. The ring is also waterproof up to 100 meters and can last up to seven days on a full charge.
