Golfzon, a leading South Korean golf simulator company, has launched its first urban golf course in China, spanning 16,000 square meters (about 5,000 pyeong).
Golfzon announced on Sept. 3 that its groundbreaking City Golf, the world’s first hybrid urban golf course combining screen golf with field greens, opened in Tianjin, China, on Sept. 1.
Located at the Meijiang Convention Center in Tianjin, the City Golf facility features an 18-hole course, with each hole equipped with its own screen and green, all within a 5,000-pyeong indoor space. A Golfzon staffer explained, “The venue is designed with a spacious 18-meter-high ceiling that allows natural light, offering a private golfing experience in the heart of the city.”
The City Golf concept integrates screen golf and field greens. Tee shots and approaches are conducted via the screen, while play around the green occurs in a real green area after the screen opens. Depending on the hole, players can also take approach and bunker shots on the green. Golfzon noted that the greens, a core element of City Golf, were developed by a specialized design firm known for crafting greens for renowned golf courses in South Korea.
Golfzon will host screen golf tournaments using the City Golf platform. The Golfzon City Golf China Open will take place at Tianjin City Golf from Sept. 13, featuring a total prize pool of 5 million yuan (around $703,000), with a winner’s prize of 1.5 million yuan ($211,000). The event will be broadcast through various channels, including local TV stations in China.
Starting with Tianjin, Golfzon plans to introduce City Golf to major cities around the world.
Golfzon CEO Park Kang-soo said, “City Golf is the world’s first urban golf course that incorporates Golfzon’s golf simulator technology and field golf course management expertise,” adding, “We aim to bring this platform to city centers globally, beginning with China.”
