Asiana Airlines will raise excess baggage fees for international flights starting Jan. 2, 2025, its first increase in five years and six months since July 2019. Excess baggage refers to checked luggage that exceeds the free allowance in terms of number, weight, or size.

On U.S. routes, where two bags are allowed for free, the fee for one additional bag will increase from 200,000 won to 240,000 won. Short-haul routes under 90 minutes will see fees rise from 60,000 won to 90,000 won, while European routes will see a jump from 140,000 won to 180,000 won. A company spokesperson said the price hikes are due to rising costs for baggage handling.

Meanwhile, Korean Air stated it has no plans to raise its excess baggage fees. However, South Korea’s major low-cost carriers, including Jeju Air, Air Seoul, Jin Air, and Eastar Jet, have already increased baggage fees earlier this year, with Jeju Air raising pre-purchased baggage fees by 5,000 to 10,000 won per route in March.
