OpenAI founder and chief executive officer Sam Altman said the company is considering developing a healthcare-focused ChatGPT and expressed interest in collaborating with Korean companies in the robotics sector.

“We want OpenAI’s products to be accessible to medical institutions, so we’re working on complying with HIPAA regulations for our enterprise solutions,” Altman said at the Builder Lab developer workshop held at The Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, on Feb. 4. He added, “This is one of the fields we are most excited about because it has the potential to accelerate scientific innovation in medicine, save lives, and create a positive impact.”

Altman also revealed his interest in robotics, stating, “Part of the reason we came to Korea is to explore potential partnerships with local companies in this field.” He emphasized Korea’s strategic role in the AI ecosystem, spanning semiconductors to energy.

Over 100 participants attended the event, including SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, SK Telecom President Ryu Young-sang, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung, and IT developers and key executives from major Korean corporations.
