SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won met Tô Lâm, Vietnam’s top-ranking political leader and general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, at the Party Central Committee headquarters in Hanoi on Feb. 16. The two discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector and enhance bilateral relations.

“SK Group has world-class capabilities in the energy sector, and we hope to contribute to Vietnam’s sustainable economic growth while fostering collaboration in related industries,” Chey said.

SK Group has been actively expanding renewable energy and resource recycling projects in Vietnam. Since 2020, SK Innovation’s energy subsidiary, SK E&S, has been operating a 131-megawatt (MW) solar power facility in the southern Ninh Thuan province while also running an offshore wind farm. SK Innovation’s energy exploration arm, SK Earthon, is participating in Vietnam’s 15-2/17 oil and gas exploration project.

“South Korea has consistently been one of Vietnam’s leading partners in investment and trade,” general secretary Tô Lâm said.

Vietnam was South Korea’s third-largest trading partner in 2022 and 2023. South Korea is also Vietnam’s largest foreign investor, with more than 8,800 Korean companies operating in the country.
