Kolmar Korea announced Feb. 24 that it has developed groundbreaking technology that combines the strengths of mineral and chemical UV filters, overcoming previous limitations in sun protection.

The company’s innovation coats mineral UV filters with chemical ones, resolving the common issue of reduced sun protection when the two types are combined.

Sunscreens typically fall into two categories: chemical filters, which absorb UV rays and convert them into heat, and mineral filters, which reflect UV rays. Chemical sunscreens can irritate the skin, while mineral options often leave a white cast, prompting many consumers to prefer hybrid products. However, traditional hybrids have struggled to form a uniform protective layer, compromising their effectiveness.

Kolmar Korea said it has secured domestic patent rights for the technology and is pursuing international patents to support its global expansion.

“We plan to develop a range of innovative products using this technology for both domestic and international markets,” a company official said.
