HD Hyundai Executive Vice Chairman Chung Ki-sun visited the United States Naval Academy in Maryland on March 7 to emphasize cooperation between South Korea and the United States in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors.

According to the company, Chung met with Superintendent Vice Admiral Yvette M. Davis, along with other academy officials and midshipmen. After the meeting, he toured the hull structure classroom and fluid dynamics laboratory, discussing future developments and research challenges in the maritime field with the midshipmen.

Speaking with the midshipmen, Chung said, “South Korea is a strong ally of the United States and a trusted partner in driving innovation in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors. HD Hyundai has successfully delivered five world-class Aegis destroyers to the Republic of Korea Navy, contributing to national security innovation.” Former Chief of Naval Operations Jung Ho-sub accompanied him on the visit.

Chung, following in the footsteps of his father, Chung Mong-joon, chairman of the Asan Foundation, served as a Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) officer and completed his military service in the Army Special Forces. He is currently on a business trip to the United States to attend CERA Week, the world’s largest energy event, starting on March 10 in Texas. On March 6, he met with Alex Karp, CEO of AI and big data company Palantir Technologies, in Washington, D.C., to discuss defense industry collaboration, including the artificial intelligence (AI) shipyard project.
