Jeju Air’s premium economy seats, called “Business Lite,” are most popular among passengers in their 30s and 40s, according to data released on April 22.
The airline’s analysis of last year’s passengers by age group showed that those in their 30s (22.2%) and 40s (22.1%) made up the largest share of Business Lite customers, followed by those in their 50s (18.6%), 20s (12.2%), and 60s (11.7%).
Business Lite, introduced in July 2019, offers wider and more comfortable seating than standard economy at a lower price point than business class. The traditional 3-3 seat layout is replaced with a 2-2 configuration, eliminating the middle seat and adding extra legroom. While not quite business class, the seat offers a more relaxed experience compared to regular economy. Perks include priority check-in at a dedicated counter, 30kg of free checked baggage, expedited baggage claim, in-flight meals, and amenity kits.
Jeju Air markets Business Lite as delivering a more satisfying in-flight experience at an affordable rate. “More airlines at home and abroad are introducing premium economy options that offer a comfortable travel experience at a reasonable price,” a Jeju Air staffer said.
By destination, the majority of Business Lite users flew on Southeast Asian routes (46%), followed by Japan (37%) and Oceania (13.6%).
Business Lite seats are currently available on select routes including Incheon–Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, Sapporo; Busan–Tokyo (Narita); Incheon–Bohol, Clark, Bali, Batam, Singapore; and Busan–Singapore.
