Nacho Duato the artistic director of the National Dance Company of Spain arrived in Seoul Tuesday to stage a performance at the Opera House in Seoul Arts Center from June 21 to the 23rd. Foreign and domestic critics describe Duato as an artist with a sterling Mediterranean, reputation.
Born in Valencia, Spain, Duato studied ballet at the Lambert School in England at the age of 18, followed by the Mudra School and Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and School in New York City.
Selected by Jiri Kylian, he started dancing at the Dutch Dance Theatre NDT and since then his brilliance has led to a variety of awards for dance director right after his debut. Since 1990, he has led the National Dance Company of Spain.
Programs for Seoul concert include "My Love," "Salaparta" and Arkangelo, along with baroque music and traditional percussion instruments and dancing.
The company is made up of 30 dancers whom are masters of classical and modern ballet techniques. "There are graceful classical ballet lines alive in the bodies of all dancers. However, I want a dancer who is like an ordinary people. I would like the dancers to enjoy themselves while staying in Seoul, allowing them to stumbling due to a previous night's hangover," he said.
