Seoul Seocho Police Station is investigating 31-year-old former pro baseball player Cho Sung-min, who is charged with assaulting his estranged wife, 36-year-old Choi Jin-sil on Sunday.
Cho went to Choi's house in Banpo-dong around 2:00 a.m. He caused a disturbance, throwing dishes and the like, and slapping Choi in the face with the palm of his hand. He is also accused for hitting the actress's younger brother, singer Choi Jin-young, who came to his sister's house after receiving word from his sister.
It is known that Cho Sung-min showed his dissatisfaction with his failure to be drafted at the crime scene. According to Choi Jin-young, Cho insisted during spats with his wife that, "I cannot be a player, coach, director, anything because of you!" venting his dissatisfaction.
Cho came back from Japan after an injury and had special training to play again in Korea. He failed to be drafted even in the second round of the 2005 draft, however. Cho confirmed the fact of assault, saying, "I was drunk and met her to talk about the rearing of children. I hit her because while we were having a conversation she shouted, 'Get out.' It made me angry and eventually I hit her."
Choi Jin-sil is at a hospital in Seoul receiving medical treatment. She plans to take legal action against Cho. Choi will get a written diagnosis from the hospital, and after a police investigation on Tuesday, she plans to charge Cho with assault.
