Son Heung-min, who recently transferred to Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League from Bayer Leverkusen, returned to Korea on Monday ahead of a match against Laos Thursday in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, in the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Son went straight to Hwaseong after arriving at the Incheon International Airport and appeared in a stadium for training in the afternoon. Over 200 fans greeted him with cheers and girls screamed in joy at the sight of the young football star.
"It hasn't sunk in yet as I haven't played a match in Tottenham's uniform. I had a dream of playing in the Premier League and I'm happy that I achieved it," Son said.
Prior to the Tottenham's home match against Everton on Saturday, Son made his first appearance to meet fans at White Hart Lane in north London.
"I was so grateful that so many fans welcomed me," Son said. Asked how he feels about signing a transfer deal of 30 million euros with Tottenham, he added, "I think transfer fees reflect players' value. I felt great that Tottenham valued me so highly."
