Korea will face Japan in the semifinals of the Premier 12, a tournament organized by the World Baseball Softball Confederation involving 12 top-ranked nations.
Korea beat Cuba 7-2 in the quarterfinals on Monday and Japan defeated Puerto Rico 9-3 the same day to secure their spots in the semifinal.
Meanwhile, the U.S. and Mexico will meet in the other semifinal match on Friday after edging out the Netherlands 6-1 and Canada 4-3 in the quarterfinals, respectively.
Korea was supposed to have its quarterfinal game at the same stadium in Taipei where it lost to the U.S. 3-2 in its preliminary final on Sunday.
But due to a mysterious fire in the scoreboard control room, the organizer of the tournament decided to switch the venue to a stadium in Taichung, about a two-hour drive away from Taipei.
Korean players will fly to Tokyo to face Japan on Thursday.
