Yune made his debut in Korea in 1959. He moved over to the U.S. in 1962 as an international naval cadet and resumed his career as a stand-up comedian.

He became popular after appearing on NBC's "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson and then hosted "Johnny Yune Special Show" on the same network.

He returned to Korea in 1989 and became a popular talk show host.

Yune was treated at Asan Medical Center for a cerebral hemorrhage in April last year and returned to Los Angeles several months later.
