Vietnam and Indonesia have reached the semifinals of the AFF Championship, also known as the Suzuki Cup, hosted by the ASEAN Football Federation. The biennial championship, which was postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, is taking place in Singapore.
The two national teams are led by Korean coaches Park Hang-seo and Shin Tae-yong, respectively.
Currently at 99th in the FIFA world rankings, Vietnam has grown into the strongest team in Southeast Asia since Park took the helm in October 2017.
Vietnam, which was the winner in 2018 and is eying its second consecutive win, has been dominating since the group-stage matches. It has earned 10 points so far from three wins and one draw without conceding a goal.
Indonesia, ranked 166th and led by Shin since December 2019, has also earned 10 points from three wins and one draw, but has come out on top with more goals than Vietnam.
The semifinals and finals will be played over two legs. Indonesia and Singapore are set to face each other on Wednesday, with Vietnam facing Thailand on Thursday. The next matches will be held this weekend.
The two-match finals will take place on Dec. 29 and Jan. 1.
