Choi Ji-woo

Actress Choi Ji-woo is set to return to the big screen next month after a seven-year absence.

She will star in the thriller "New Normal," which deals with fears and horrors people feel in their everyday lives. She plays a woman who is unable to smile.

It is her first film since "Like for Likes" in 2016, although she has appeared in a couple of TV series in cameo roles since her marriage in 2018.

"When I first read the script, the story was very original and intriguing, but I wondered why the director chose me for the role," she said at a press event in Seoul last Friday. "I decided to join the project because I thought I could show a new side of myself, as the director expected of me."

"I was very excited to go to the film set because it's been a while since I appeared on the screen," she said. "I was happy to hear that people are seeing a new side of me through this film," as she hoped.

The film, directed by Jung Bum-shik, is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 8.
