“OMG,” a hit song from girl group NewJeans, has surpassed over 600 million streams on Spotify, becoming the group’s first song to pass the threshold.
The song had recorded 600,558,542 streams, according to Spotify, one of the largest streaming platforms, on Feb. 5. Released early Jan. last year, “OMG” is a bubbly hip-hop R&B genre that features UK Garage and trap rhythms.
The title track of the single album”OMG” alongside “Ditto,” another track from the same album, swept major domestic charts upon its release. “OMG” was listed on the Billboard Hot 100 main songs charts in the United States. The title track remains high on major domestic charts. The song has been staying on the Billboard Global chart for 56 consecutive weeks.
NewJeans currently has 10 songs with more than 100 million streams on Spotify (“Dittio” 500 million, “Super Shy” and “Hype Boy” each 400 million, “Attention” 300 million, “Cookie” 200 million, “Hurt,” “NewJeans,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You” each 100 million). All of their songs have been streamed on Spotify for a combined total of more than 3.6 billion times.
The band was nominated for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (“Get Up”), Song of the Year (“Ditto”), Best K-Pop Album (“Get Up”), and Best K-Pop Song (“Ditto”), becoming one of the most nominated artists at the 21st Korean Music Awards.
The Korean Music Awards is a ceremony that recognizes the musical achievements of artists rather than their popularity or sales numbers. The selection panel consists of different occupations, such as critics, music media editors, TV producers, and Music content creators. This year’s ceremony will be aired live on an online platform on Feb. 29.
