Korean boy group Seventeen has topped the Global Album Chart 2023, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

Seventeen’s 10th EP “FML” ranked No.1 on the chart announced by a non-profit organization based in London, IFPI, on Feb.27. It outperformed other tough competitors who achieved significant success on major global charts last year, such as Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing At A Time” and Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” to secure the top spot.

The boy band debuted in the top 10 on the chart at No.7 in 2022 for its fourth full-length album, “Face the Sun.” Its 11th EP, “Seventeenth Heaven,” secured the eighth position, making the group have two albums in the top 10.

IFPI, boasting over 8,000 music labels globally as its members, annually releases a compiled list detailing trends in the music industry. The Global Album Chart is based on physical album sales, digital downloads, and audio and video streaming. The chart is considered one of the most objective indicators for measuring the year’s best-selling albums in the global music market.

The 13-piece K-pop group’s combined album sales surpassed 16 million copies last year. “FML,” released last April, sold over 6.27 million copies, making it the biggest-selling K-pop album of all time. “Seventeenth Heaven” became the first K-pop album to sell more than 5 million copies in the first week of sales.

“We are delighted to present this year’s IFPI Global Album Award to Seventeen’s FML,” said Lewis Morrison, Director of Global Charts and Certifications at IFPI. He also added that the group continues to push the boundaries with their concepts, performance, and talent.

The boy band is currently on a world tour to meet fans around the globe. It held 23 concerts last year alone, performing in front of more than one million fans.

Seventeen is set to hold an encore tour, titled “Seventeen Tour ‘Follow’ Again,” at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium on March 30 and 31, the Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka, Japan, on May 18 and 19, then at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama on May 25 and 26.
