YG’s rookie girl group BabyMonster is breaking records with their EP.
Baby Monster’s EP, “BABYMONS7ER,” released on April 1, has dominated various music charts and garnered favorable reviews. The seven-member group is leading K-pop as the fifth generation of girl groups.
Their EP achieved the highest weekly sales for a debut album. A total of 401,287 copies of the EP were sold in the week of April 1 to 7, surpassing any previous records set by girl groups.
Prior to their official debut, BabyMonster demonstrated their popularity by selling over 460,000 albums in preorders alone. As the first new artist under YG Entertainment in seven years since BLACKPINK, expectations were high, but BabyMonster has undoubtedly met and exceeded fans’ expectations.
The group has already showcased its widespread appeal with its debut music video, “Batter UP,” which gained the highest number of views on YouTube in 24 hours and topped the global daily MV chart. It also secured the top position on the music video charts on international streaming music platforms such as Japan’s Line Music and China’s QQ Music, marking an unprecedented achievement for a girl group.
The lead track, “Sheesh,” topped YouTube’s global weekly music video chart based on views from Mar. 29 to April 1 after maintaining its position at the top for four consecutive days since its release.
