LG U+ announced plans to produce a live-action robot drama, ‘K-TRON’ (working title), through its content studio, STUDIO X+U. The company will form a special-purpose company (SPC) in partnership with SAMG Entertainment, known for the animation ‘Catch! Teenieping,’ and HighZium Studio, the producers behind the popular drama ‘Itaewon Class.’

The three companies will leverage their business, production, investment, and distribution strengths to undertake this ambitious project. As robot intellectual property (IP) becomes increasingly popular in the global content market, the partners aim to leverage their expertise to create new value.

LG U+ will utilize STUDIO X+U to participate in the joint planning and production of the IP and oversee the entire project, including investment and distribution management. SAMG Entertainment will contribute its IP business know-how, honed through successful global performances like ‘Catch! Teenieping’, ‘Miniforce’, and ‘Metal Cardbot.’ HighZium Studio will share its strategies for creating hit dramas, drawing from its experience with series like ‘Itaewon Class’ and ‘Money Heist.’

The joint project, ‘K-TRON,’ aims to debut on global OTT platforms in 2026. The show will feature a combination of giant 3D robots and human actors.

An LG U+ representative said, “The ‘K-Robot Project,’ which will highlight Korean cultural elements, is expected to offer a distinct appeal compared to existing robot-themed productions like ‘Transformers’ and ‘Pacific Rim.’ We expect this project to be a significant opportunity to showcase the advanced visual effects (VFX) and other technological advancements of Korea’s video production industry to a global audience.”
