South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter Kwon Ji-yong, known as the leader of the K-pop boy band BIGBANG, has officially acquired the trademark rights to his stage name ‘G-Dragon,’ which he used throughout his career with the group. On Aug. 1, Kwon’s new agency, Galaxy Corporation, confirmed to OSEN, “It is true that Kwon Ji-yong has been transferred the trademark rights for ‘G-Dragon’ from YG Entertainment.”

On the same day, a media outlet reported that YG Entertainment decided to transfer the trademark rights for ‘G-Dragon,’ ‘GD,’ and other related names to Kwon Ji-yong. The decision acknowledges G-Dragon’s status as a symbolic artist for the company, with the name ‘G-Dragon’ being integral to his identity.

Kwon Ji-yong has been involved in the entertainment industry from a young age and first connected with YG Entertainment in 2002. He debuted with BIGBANG in 2006, producing numerous hit songs and significantly influencing the music industry. Beyond his group activities, he has been recognized as a trendsetter in the industry.

After his exclusive contract with YG Entertainment expired, Kwon announced in December last year that he was ending his 23-year affiliation with the company. Concurrently, he signed an exclusive contract with Galaxy Corporation, marking a new chapter in his career.
