The highly successful Netflix original series ‘Squid Game’ is set to return with its second season at the end of this year. On Aug 1, Netflix announced that Season 2 will premiere on Dec 26, with Season 3 scheduled for release sometime next year.

Season 1 of ‘Squid Game’ became a global sensation, earning the title of the most-watched show in Netflix’s history based on viewership hours. At the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards, director Hwang Dong-hyuk won the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, and actor Lee Jung-jae took home the prize for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

In Season 2, the story will follow protagonist Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who, after winning the deadly games but choosing not to leave for the U.S., returns with his own motives and plans.

The cast for Season 2 will feature newcomers Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Jo Yu-ri, Lee Jin-uk, Roh Jae-won, Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P), Park Gyu-young, and Won Ji-an. Returning from Season 1 are Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed his excitement about the continuation of the series, saying, “I am thrilled to bring this story, which began as a small idea, to fruition with Seasons 2 and 3. We are committed to delivering the best possible experience for our audience as we wrap up this incredible journey.”
