Former BigBang member G-Dragon, also known as Kwon Ji-yong, has launched the JusPeace Foundation to combat drug abuse. The official launch event was held on Aug. 5 in Yeouido, Seoul, where G-Dragon serves as honorary chairman. The foundation was promised by G-Dragon following drug use allegations in December of the previous year. At that time, the Incheon Police Department booked him on drug charges, but he was cleared after testing negative in a detailed examination.
G-Dragon, who was absent from the launch due to album work, has announced that he will donate 1% of his music earnings to the foundation. The funds will support musical therapy for young drug addicts, public use of copyrights, and sponsorship of artistic talent. Around 50 experts attended the launch to support the foundation’s public service projects, fundraising, and external promotions.
The name “JusPeace” was chosen by G-Dragon, blending the English words for justice and peace. The foundation staff had initially suggested names like “Kwon Ji-yong Foundation” and “G-Dragon Foundation.”
G-Dragon is also set to release a solo album in the second half of this year, marking his first solo release in seven years.
