The long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster hit ‘Veteran’, titled ‘I, the Executioner’, is set to dominate the box office this Chuseok holiday with its star-studded cast and high expectations to surpass the original’s success.
The original film, which attracted 13.4 million viewers and ranked 8th in Korea’s all-time box office rankings, left a lasting impression, and the sequel is poised to do the same.
‘I, the Executioner’ is the only major release scheduled for the Chuseok holiday period and will premiere on Sept. 13.
Chuseok, often referred to as the Korean Thanksgiving, is one of Korea’s most significant holidays. It’s a time when families gather to celebrate the harvest, pay respects to their ancestors, and share traditional food, making it a peak period for movie releases.
With Hwang Jung-min and Jung Hae-in in the leading roles, there’s high anticipation to see if the sequel can surpass its predecessor, which was widely praised for its sharp critique of the arrogant and corrupt behavior of a third-generation chaebol.
Another key point of interest is whether Jung Hae-in will successfully take over the mantle of the villain from Yoo Ah-in, who portrayed the infamous Jo Tae-oh in the original film.
