Famed American pop star Bruno Mars expressed his excitement in Korean after learning that he had claimed the top spot on a popular domestic music chart show.
On the 25th, Bruno Mars took to his Instagram story, posting in Korean, “Thank you so much to all my Korean fans! I cried all morning after winning my first-ever Korean music show (Crying!). I’m incredibly grateful to Rosé for helping me get to first place, and I really appreciate all the love you’ve shown for ‘APT.’ Love, Bruno oppa.”
Bruno Mars’ Instagram post blew up online, with screenshots quickly spreading across various platforms. Fans were both surprised and amused. Some said, “Bruno Mars speaks Korean so well!” while others couldn’t believe it, commenting, “Is this real or fake?’ and ‘I never thought I’d see Bruno Mars writing in Korean about winning first place on a Korean music show.”
On Oct. 24, Rosé and Bruno Mars’ collab track “APT.” took the top spot on the music show M Countdown. After the win, Rosé congratulated Bruno Mars, saying, “You made it,” while Mars excitedly shared his thoughts on the achievement.
“APT.,” a pre-release single dropped on Oct. 18 ahead of Rosé's upcoming comeback set for Dec. 6, was both written and composed by her. The song is inspired by a popular Korean drinking game, and the music video even shows Bruno Mars sipping “somaek,” a mix of soju and beer, and shouting “Geonbae, geonbae!” (cheers). Even though the song centers around Korean drinking culture, which might be unfamiliar to international listeners, it quickly gained traction and caught significant attention.
The track will also feature on Rosé's first full-length album, “rosie.” By the morning of Oct. 22—just four days after its release—APT. had already topped both the global and U.S. Spotify charts, making Rosé the first Korean female solo artist to hit number one on both. And by Oct. 23, the song had surpassed 100 million views on YouTube.
