Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2 has been nominated for Best Television Series for the 82nd Annual Golden Globes on Dec. 9 before its release later this month.
The movies and TV series competing for the Golden Globe Awards alongside Squid Game Season 2 include Shogun (FX/Hulu), The Diplomat (Netflix), Slow Horses (AppleTV), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Prime Video), and The Day of the Jackal (Peacock).
Squid Game Season 2 stands out as a surprise nomination because it is not set to arrive until Dec. 26. U.S. media outlets, including Forbes, explained that the early nomination could have only been possible because Netflix provided Golden Globes voters early access to the series. The 82nd Annual Golden Globes will air on Jan. 5.
Squid Game Season 1 was nominated in three categories at the 79th Golden Globes in 2022: Best TV Drama, Best Actor (Lee Jung-jae), and Best Supporting Actor (O Young-su). O made history as the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe.
