The South Korean film Harbin, starring Hyun Bin, has drawn over 2 million moviegoers just five days after its release.
According to data from the Korea Film Council and distributor CJ ENM, Harbin, which hit theaters on Christmas Eve, attracted over 2 million viewers as of 5:56 p.m. on Dec. 28. The movie reached the 2 million viewer milestone faster than 12.12: The Day, which surpassed the mark on the sixth day after release. The current pace matches that set by Hollywood blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water.
Harbin is a biographical period drama film directed by Woo Min-ho, also known for Inside Men (2015) and The Man Standing Next (2020). The film is about Ahn Jung-geun, a Korean independence activist who assassinated Ito Hirobumi, the first Prime Minister of Japan, during Japan’s colonial rule of Korea in 1909. It portrays the sacrifices, struggles, and emotional turmoil Ahn and his fellow independence fighters face throughout the mission.
Hyun Bin stars as Ahn Jung-geun, with supporting performances from Park Jung-min, Cho Woo-jin, Lee Dong-wook, Park Hoon, and Jeon Yeo-bin.
