K-pop girl group NewJeans has officially rebranded as NJZ and is set to pursue independent activities.
On Feb. 7, the group unveiled its new name and logo through its official social media channels, updating its username from “jeanzforfree” to “njz_official.”
NJZ is slated to perform next month at ComplexCon, a global street fashion and culture festival set to take place at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. This will mark the group’s first official appearance under its new name.
Expressing enthusiasm for the transition, member Min-ji said, “We’re thrilled to showcase a new side of ourselves. We’ve been looking forward to sharing the music we’ve prepared for our fans around the world.”
NJZ has been operating independently since November after terminating its exclusive contract with its agency, Ador, citing nonperformance of contractual obligations.
However, Ador contends that the contract remains legally binding and has filed a lawsuit seeking confirmation of its validity. The agency has also requested an injunction to retain its management rights and prevent the members from signing advertising deals without its approval.
