Former popular television personality Oh Hyun-kyung has submitted a petition to the prosecution asking that they investigate the circumstances that led to the widespread circulation of the "Miss Oh Video," a 28 minute video clip that allegedly captures Oh having sex with a man who in the video is unidentified. Oh has spent recent months in the New York, where her manager says she is trying to "start a new life," but in May a rumor spread that she had committed suicide. The rumor was quickly confirmed as being false, but the case continues to stay afloat for one reason or another.
In her petition to the prosecution, Oh describes events as far as she understands them to be, and asks police to investigate the man in the video, who she identifies, and those around him. She alleges that towards the end of 1997, someone attempted to blackmail her, saying that they had a tape of her in the act and demanding money.
When contacted by the Chosun Ilbo, well known psychiatrist Lee Nami said that "Miss Oh has no reason to be ashamed of having sexual relations with a member of the opposite sex in the days of her youth. It is those who purchase and enjoy watching the video who should be ashamed."
