Washington's chief nuclear envoy Christopher Hill is due in the region amid North Korea's continued refusal to declare a full and complete list of its nuclear programs.
The U.S. State Department says Hill will depart for a Northeast Asia tour at the end of this week with details to be worked out.
Such trips have typically included stops in South Korea, China and Japan during which he often meets Russian and North Korean counterparts in Beijing.
Talks with his nuclear counterparts will focus on ways to push forward the denuclearization process.
Sources say Hill will arrive in Seoul next week and is expected to also meet with president-elect Lee Myung-bak during his visit.
